Minimising flood effect

In order to minimise the effects of urban flooding in Hyderabad, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) are developing an Urban Flood Information System (UFIS).

2/5

Modeling technique

The team's primary objective is to gather and comprehend data. They will utilize modeling techniques to simulate and predict rainfall levels, analyze flood depths and their reach, and create tailored products to meet the requirements of policymakers and stakeholders.

3/5

Study lead says

Satish Kumar Regonda, who leads the study, says, "One of the preliminary tasks of setting a reliable UFIS is to have a medium through which flood-related data can be collected."

4/5

Absence of key input data

He said that the absence of key input data like rainfall at finer intervals and flood flow measurements, hinders flood modelling efforts.

5/5

Comprehensive approach

Members of Regonda's team have undertaken a comprehensive approach to tackle urban flooding in Hyderabad. Their efforts have centered around studying the climatological aspects of rainfall, gaining insights into the weather patterns responsible for rain in Hyderabad, and exploring alternative rainfall data sources.

Mr.Rehonda must go to Urban Planning Dept of Osmania University and draw insights pertaining to Hyd City Planning.Later his team must keep with them a Copy of Glasgow Summit Draft.Soon they must visit Chennai and observe the river nearby IIT,Madras and draw practical examples from the folks there who tried to do their best in curbing floods near by the Institute. They must not hesitate to go to New Delhi and keep in touch the Iitians there how they tried to curb Horrid Yamuna floods. They must have practical knowledge in saving lives during incorrigible floods. This is sufficient for the time being though I can give many instances of saving lives during floods that devastating lives in Pakistan just a couple of years ago.We wish the Regonda team well.
