Six persons who helped in the kidnapping of an ex-minister's kin were arrested on Saturday while the main accused is still at large.
KURNOOL: Six persons who helped in the kidnapping of an ex-minister's kin were arrested on Saturday while the main accused and friend of the abducted youth, who lead the abduction and demanded Rs 20 lakhs as ransom, is still at large, police said. Sricharan (25), nephew of ex-minister and businessman V Rambhupal Chowdary was kidnapped by his friend Srikar, who took him on a motorcycle to 'Mamaji Dhaba' at Nandyal check-post here on December 4, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramanath said.
The main accused Srikar left him near Dhaba and his six accomplices frisked him away in a van, he said, adding that arrested persons were identified as Mastan, Narenda R, Munna, Harish, Eswar and Ramesh. A day later, ex-minister's family member received an SMS stating that Sricharan was kidnapped and they should pay Rs 20 lakhs as ransom. Following which the family lodged a complaint, the DSP said. He said that police nabbed the kidnappers and rescued Sricharan on with the help of details of the SMS that was sent to the family from Srikar's mobile.
