HYDERABAD: Task Force sleuths on Wednesday arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in a
cricket betting
racket at Ramgopalpet and seized Rs 8 lakh cash from their possession. The accused were using a mobile phone application- Match Box 9. Com - for betting.
Task Force police said that Zaynil Rupani, Nazim Gilani, Mohit Jain, Nikhar Maheshwari, Rahul Jain and Vaibhav Salvi were arrested while the key organisers- Barkat Lalani, Danish Salim, Sohail and Sahil- are absconding.
Barkat, a resident of Sindhi Colony, is the prime accused who has been organising the cricket betting from US, where he is reportedly residing for the past several months. Barkat’s alleged key aides - Danish, Sohail, Sahil, Zaynil and Nazim- are involved in organising betting operations in city at his behest.
"For carrying out betting operations, they are using an app namely Match Box 9. Com. Danish, Sohail, Sahil are presently carrying out cricket betting from Goa on behalf of Barkat. Through their contacts, they have selected some persons in their friends circle as agents through them, they identify reliable punters, from whom they have been accepting betting," officials said.
From such punters, the accused collected money as deposits in advance and gave them the link for the app, and enabled them to participate in betting.
Mohit Jain, Nikhar, Rahul and Vaibhav are the agents operating in Secunderabad and are having several persons under their fold as punters.
They accept betting amounts from punters and pass the same information to Danish, Sohail, Sahil. These agents are being paid 3% as commission over betting amount collected by them. Zaynil and Nazim are the collection agents.
After the match concludes, Danish, Sohail and Sahil do the calculations and direct Zaynil and Nazim to collect amount as specified by them from agents.
