HYDERABAD: The city police is planning to move a petition shortly in the Nampally criminal court seeking the arrest of Pune-based stud farm owner
Hasan Ali, against whom a case was registered under the Passport Act a few days ago. Ali possesses two passports issued by the Hyderabad passport authorities under the same name.
Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths told STOI that they have gathered several documents from the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Hyderabad.
“The statement of one RPO official has been recorded. We are in possession of the photocopies of some of the false documents furnished by Hasan Ali to obtain a second passport,'' deputy commissioner of police (CCS) J Satyanarayana said. He said once the verification of the documents is completed, CCS will move a prisoner transit petition to arrest Hasan Ali, who is presently lodged in Mumbai jail. CCS officials had registered a case under the Passport Act against him following a complaint by the Enforcement Directorate.
It was in the year 1996 that Hasan Ali's original passport was impounded by the city police in a cheating case. However, Hasan Ali managed to secure a second passport in his own name from the Hyderabad RPO, by furnishing the Banjara Hills address of his divorced wife Mahaboobunissa Begum. “We have sufficient evidence to nail Hasan Ali for obtaining a second passport by furnishing false information,'' police said.
Apart from the two passports issued here, Hasan Ali obtained multiple passports from RPOs of various cities including Patna, Chandigarh and Mumbai. With the help of these multiple passports, he managed to visit various countries in the past.
One issue that may crop up in case the city police manage to secure Hasan Ali’s arrest is the pending case of alleged missing artefacts from the Salar Jung Museum in the city. However, the city police have not been able to find any prima facie evidence against him in this case.
