HYDERABAD: Police chased and nabbed a history-sheeter from the emergency ward of a private hospital in Hyderabad after he threatened to harm a patient on Wednesday night.


The accused

Fareeduddin Quadri

alias Fareed, 27, is the history-sheeter of the Nampally police station.

Golconda police were on the lookout for Fareed after he tried to extort money from the friends of his brother who recently died in a road accident.

Action on a tip-off that Fareed was in Syed Nagar area of Banjara Hills and robbed a two-wheeler from a pastor on Wednesday night, police set up a vehicle checkpoint at Tolichowki X Roads to nab him.

Fareed tried to escape from the cops on the stolen scooter and police chased him for about 100 metres.

During the chase, Fareed lost control over the scooter and fell on the road.

He started running on the road and went into a private hospital's emergency room.

When the police team cornered him, Fareed pulled out a knife threatening to kill himself. He also pointed the knife at a patient on the bed in the emergency ward.

"The standoff continued for about five minutes. While trying to talk to him, our team pulled aside the patient's bed and pounced on Fareed, overpowering him. A home guard suffered a blunt injury while capturing Fareed," said Golconda inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy who personally participated in the capture of the wanted accused.

Police took Fareed into custody and he will be produced before the court.
