The fraudster, posing as a sex worker, extracted multiple payments for fake booking, security, and reservation charges. After the victim paid, he was left waiting at a hotel and threatened for more money, leading him to report the incident to cyber crime police.

HYDERABAD: A 20-year-old resident of Yakutpura was duped of Rs 1 lakh in a Telegram based honeytrap scam. Police said the victim was contacted by a fraudster posing as a sex worker, using fake photos and reviews to appear genuine.The accused allegedly extracted multiple payments under the pretext of advance booking, service security, and room reservation charges, claiming all were mandatory and refundable. Influenced by the fraudster, the victim transferred Rs 1 lakh.

When asked to visit a hotel, the victim was left waiting and was threatened to pay an additional Rs 10,000. Realising he had been scammed, the victim lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad cyber crime police station. Investigation is ongoing.
