HYDERABAD: There seem to be inconsistencies in the Cyberabad police’s claims on the motive behind the gruesome murders of B R Seth and three of his family at Lalaguda on Monday.
Police, based on the statement of the main accused Chandrabhushan Upadhyay, said he had decided to kill the family following alleged harassment and humiliation meted out by Seth''s wife Prabha.

As per Chandrabhushan''s version, narrated by the police, Prabha tried to prevent him from getting married. Even after marriage, he was not allowed to meet his wife Shobha for two years. Later, when Shobha came to Hyderabad from Bihar and became pregnant, Prabha made her get an abortion. Prabha pressurised Chandrabhushan to make Shobha get an abortion a second time too.
Police also said that Chandrabhushan claimed Prabha tried to keep him away from his wife, lest he might lose interest in work. Police also said Seth''s family prevented the servant from leaving their service.
However, police were not clear when asked why any family would try to retain a servant who is so ''headstrong.'' Besides, they were also not clear as to why Prabha made Chandrabhushan''s wife undergo an abortion.
The police claim on the execution of murders too is not clear. It is surprising that not a single servant out of five others employed by the family, other than Chandrabhushan and his sister, who work and live in the same compound, did not hear the sound of gunfire.

The police theory on Mounu Singh getting injured also appears to be flawed, because according to them, it was Mounu Singh who opened fire at Prabha while she was held by Chandrabhushan. Surprisingly, the bullet hit the person who opened fire.
The police also failed to explain how Mounu Singh, who received a bullet injury in the leg was taken to Gandhi Hospital, unnoticed by servants in the compound.
Cyberabad police, however, said they were convinced about the motive and methods used. Cyberabad police commissioner M Mahender Reddy said other servants of the Seth family did not hear the gunshot as the accused had closed all the doors and windows of the bungalow.
