The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) clarified that HMPV is a respiratory virus causing flu-like symptoms, particularly during winter, and primarily affects younger and older age groups.

Officials confirmed that no cases of HMPV have been reported in Telangana to date. A review of respiratory infections within the state shows no significant increase in December 2024 compared to the previous year.

The health department reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm and advised citizens to adopt preventive measures to protect against respiratory infections.

The health department is closely monitoring the situation.
