HMDA begins work on house plots for villagers dispossessed by metro rail

A year after the state government announced a package for Uppal Bhagat villagers, who lost their land for Metro Rail project and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) project, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has begun works to give them developed plots.

HYDERABAD: A year after the state government announced a package for Uppal Bhagat villagers, who lost their land for Metro Rail project and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) project, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has begun works to give them developed plots. Municipal administration minister M Maheedhar Reddy on Tuesday laid foundation stone for development of infrastructure for the residential layout in Uppal Bhagat.

The authority had acquired 761 acres in the village.
However, the residential layout would be developed in 413 acres with all amenities like roads, sewerage line, storm water drains and water supply at a cost of Rs 95.85 crore. As per the agreement with land owners, they would get 1,000 square yards of developed area per acre of land given up for the projects. The development work was entrusted to RMN Infrastructure, which would complete the infrastructure works within18 months i.e., by May 2014. The minister appreciated the land owners for coming forward to take part in the development activity, which would also help them in a great way.
