Hyderabad: After a brief chase on the streets of Tolichowki,
Golconda
police nabbed a knife-wielding history-sheeter from the emergency ward of a private hospital as he threatened to harm a patient on Wednesday night. He made the threat in an attempt to find a way out of the police cordon.
The accused,
Fareeduddin Quadri
alias Fareed, 27, is a history-sheeter. Golconda police were on the look out for
Fareed
after he tried to extort money from the friends of his brother.
“Fareed’s brother, Basheer Quadri, died in a road accident and his friends had suffered injuries when their vehicle hit a divider. Fareed was blaming his friends for the death of Basheer and has been trying to extort money from them. A case was registered against him,” Golconda inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy said.
On Wednesday night, police received a tip-off that Fareed was in
Syed Nagar
to extort money from his brother’s friends. Fareed’s car hit a police patrolling car, some vehicles and locals stopped him. Fareed abandoned the vehicle and robbed a two-wheeler from a pastor by threatening him with a knife, the inspector said. On coming to know about the development, Golconda police set up a vehicle checkpoint at Tolichowki X Roads.
When Fareed tried to escape on the scooter, Golconda police chased him for about 100 metres and when police intercepted him, Fareed lost control over the scooter and fell on the road. He started running on the road and went into a private hospital’s emergency room.
When police team cornered him, Fareed pulled out a knife threatening to kill himself. He also pointed the knife at a patient on the bed in the emergency ward. “The stand-off continued for about five minutes. While trying to talk to him, our team pulled aside the patient’s bed and pounced on Fareed, over powering him. A home guard suffered a blunt injury while capturing Fareed,” Chandrasekhar Reddy said, who personally participated in the capture of the wanted accused. Police took Fareed into custody.
