HYDERABAD: A week after heavy rains lashed the city, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, Medchal and Rangareddy for Thursday and Friday. The IMD said that there were chances of thunderstorms in the next two days due to a new low pressure area (LPA) over Bay of Bengal.

“Along with the LPA, there is also a north-south trough from central parts of north Bay of Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh. This could lead to rains in north and east Telangana,” said an IMD official. The effect of the weather formation was seen on Wednesday as overcast skies covered Hyderabad. Some parts of the city such as Charminar and Bandlaguda recorded between 8 mm to 12.8 mm rainfall.

On Thursday, the yellow alert is also for Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal, Hanumakonda. tnn
