hyderabad: the slump in the us economy and the attacks on the world trade centre have led to a fear psychosis in the minds of thousands of h-1b visa holders in the us. immigration support network (isn), a us-based non-profit organisation that deals with the problems of legal immigrants in the us, has found that thousands of h-1b visa holders were placed "on the bench" by the companies concerned and not being paid wages.
"since the job situation is very bad in the us, the h-1b visa holders are not demanding their pay during the "on the bench" period," said isn board member murali krishna devarakonda at a seminar on 'don't let your american dream turn into an h-1b visa nightmare,' here on sunday. murali krishna said immigration support network was lobbying with the us lawmakers to bring about major changes in the h-1b and employment-based green cards. the h-1b status should be similar to a temporary green card that gives the worker complete freedom to change jobs and negotiate a fair salary,he said.
