HYDERABAD: High drama ensued as Saifabad police registered a criminal case against chief minister's elder brother's grandson and National Students Union of India (NSUI) activist Regulapati Ritish Rao for staging a protest near the state assembly on Friday.
The incident came to light after his mother Ramya Rao went to DGP Anjani Kumar's office demanding to know about her son's whereabouts. Police said they have only remanded NSUI activist Venkat Balamoori and Ritish Rao, while other accused were served a notice.
In the afternoon, Ramya Rao created a flutter by landing at the DGP's office and demanding the security personnel let her meet Anjani Kumar. As the DGP was busy with an official meeting, she was directed to meet additional DG (law and order) Sanjay Kumar Jain.
"A team of cops barged into my house without women cops and searched for my son on Thursday night. Despite telling them that he wasn't home, they looked for him even in the water tank. Since Friday, we were looking out for him in all police stations but his whereabouts are not known," Ramya Rao told reporters.
Sanjay Jain forwarded Ramya Rao's representation to Hyderabad city police. A case was registered against the accused under various sections of IPC and City Police Act. "We arrested Venkat Balmoori and he was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday. The other accused were let off after serving a notice under section 41-A of CrPC," Saifabad police said.
