The government decided to pay the compensation as directed by the AP State Human Rights Commission to a complainant for the injuries suffered in 2006.
HYDERABAD: The state government on Wednesday decided to pay compensation of Rs 50,000 as directed by the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission to a complainant K Ashok Kumar for the injuries he had suffered during an assault by five constables of Tiruvuru police station in 2006. The government gave consent to the compensation after considering the report of the director-general of police and asked him to recover the said amount from all the accused personnel.
The victim K Ashok Kumar, son of Madhusudhana Rao, had complained to the APSHRC that he was assaulted by constables of Tiruvuru police station at the instigation of the local SI when he went to lodge a complaint regarding a land dispute at Chityala in Krishna district. The DGP had reported that enquiries revealed that constables K Naga Raju and Ch Krishnaiah had assaulted the petitioner while head constables D Venkateswara Rao and M Subba Rao and another constable P Pulla Rao had facilitated the assault. Both the constables involved in the assault were suspended for their high-handed behaviour towards the petitioner K Ashok Kumar. A case has been registered against five police personnel and it is pending trial in the court of judicial first class magistrate in Tiruvuru.
