HYDERABAD: In a new twist to the 2008 sensational bribery case involving a deputy controller of legal metrology, the government has given permission to the Anti-Corruption-Bureau (ACB) to probe the role of senior IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, who was then legal metrology controller. Tejdeep Kaur Menon is now director-general (Special Protection Force).
A decision to allow the ACB to initiate regular enquiry (RE) was taken by the brass of the general administration department (GAD) after getting the green signal from chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
“The state government issued a memo directing ACB to conduct a regular enquiry (RE) and submit a report on the veracity of allegations leveled against Tejdeep Kaur Menon,'' a credible source told TOI.
The decision to conduct the enquiry was taken by the government based on the trap case details, including the confession report of B Ram Kumar, then deputy controller of legal metrology, Hyderabad, who was caught accepting Rs 2.5 lakh bribe from subordinates at his house in Ameerpet to effect their transfers to desired locations.
In his confession, Ram Kumar informed the investigators that he took the money with the knowledge of the then controller, Tejdeep Kaur Menon.
Ram Kumar, who has been facing trial in a local ACB court, has been reinstated and is now posted as deputy controller, Warangal. Though the file containing allegations against the senior IPS officer was lying with the government for the past five years, the reasons for grant of permission now to conduct an enquiry against Tejdeep have raised eyebrows.
As per the memo issued on November 16, the ACB sleuths would start the enquiry into the allegations against the senior IPS officer and the findings would be sent to the state government. It is learnt that the IPS officer might also be questioned by the ACB officials to give her a chance to explain her version.
When contacted, in-charge director-general (ACB) AK Khan claimed he was ignorant of the development and said his sub-ordinates in ACB might be aware of it. “Since I am only an in-charge, I requested my sub-ordinates only to involve me in the most important issues,” Khan added.
