SECUNDERABAD: A

fine

of Rs 5,000 was imposed on Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) worker

R Anand Babu

for an illegal

flexi

installed at Bowenpally checkpost offering birthday wishes to Mynampally Rohith, son of TRS MLA Mynampally Hanmanth Rao.

The fine was imposed by the director of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC)enforcement, vigilance and disaster management (

EVDM

) wing following a complaint by a commuter on social media. “Display board being covered with the @trspartyonline flexi at Bowenpally check post. I assume flexi ban applicable to ruling @trspartyonline party also?,” tweeted the commuter.

Following this, the EVDM director issued an e-challan against the TRS worker under Section-596 of the GHMC Act for the unauthorised erection of flexi on sign board at the Bowenpally checkpost. The flexi covered the signboard thereby causing hindrance to commuters on the route.

Soon after this, many commuters raised an alarm over illegal flexis that are erected at many places across the twin cities. “On the way from HMT to Habsiguda, look at those banners, despite so many people reporting about numerous incidents, why there is no strict ban? @HYDTP @hydcitypolice @Director_EVDM just because it is ruling party you are afraid to take action?,” tweeted another concerned local.

Responding to numerous complaints on Twitter, GHMC removed banners and flexis erected by ruling party members on the Nacharam-Habsiguda stretch. It maybe recalled that last week, as part of a special drive, EVDM had removed over 20,000 illegal flexis and banners. According to officials, over 4,000 e-challans have been issued against illegal banners in last one month and penalties to the tune of Rs 3 crore have been collected across the twin cities.
