GHMC employees union seeks transfer of long standing staff

Hyderabad: At a time when municipal corporations in Hyderabad are grappling with acute staff shortages and frequent administrative reshuffles, a significant number of employees in the GHMC continued in the same department and at the same posting for nearly 3 decades.The issue came under the spotlight after the municipal employees' association formally wrote to the GHMC commissioner, RV Karnan, seeking the transfer of long-standing staff. The association alleged that prolonged postings in the same wings led to administrative stagnation and delays in file movement in several departments.
In a letter to the GHMC commissioner, the employees' union pointed out that three employees worked in the transport section in Kavadiguda and Malkapet for 15 to 25 years. "There is a need to transfer these long-standing employees, as work in the respective department is much delayed," said Udhari Gopal, President, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union.
