In 2007, based on the complaint of IDBI bank officials, a cheating case was registered against M Ashok Reddy by Narayanguda police for allegedly duping the bank of 5 lakh by committing fraudulent activities using a bank issued POS machine. Ashok Reddy was arrested by the police in that case and later released on bail.

According to police, by the time summons were issued, Ashok Reddy was not residing at his address and his name was changed to M Matta Reddy, due to which summons could not be delivered. In 2015, court issued NBW against the accused and in 2018 April, after prosecution closed the evidence, the IX Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court forwarded the case record to

Metropolitan Sessions

Judge (MSJ) to treat the case as Long Pending Case (LPC).

By then Ashok Reddy alias Matta Reddy was acquitted in another cheating case registered at Malakpet PS. After his recent arrest in double murder case where realtors, N Srinnivasa Reddy, 40, and K Raghavender Reddy, 40, were gunned down by the watchman of Matta Reddy and his associate — allegedly on Matta Reddy’s instructions — Rachakonda CP Mahesh Bhagwat said that Ashok Reddy deliberately changed his name to Matta Reddy to “hush up his criminal history.”

“Matta Reddy said that he and his father changed their names due to their belief in astrology and numerology. Ashok Reddy, son of Indrasena Reddy, became Matta Reddy, son of

Venkata Narasimha Reddy

. In fact, Venkata Narasimha Reddy’s is Matta Reddy’s grandfather name. Matta Reddy claimed that he and his father changed their names and same was also entered in the government gazette. But he is yet to provide documentary evidence. Matta Reddy obtained PAN card and other ID proofs with his new name,” said an investigator.

Police said that Matta Reddy who owns 78 acre of land in the state including 60 acre in

Tandur

and four 1,111 square yard plots in

Cherla Patelguda

where the double murders took place is well off and his family members are also well educated. “Siblings are settled abroad. His daughter studied masters degree abroad. He has four cars including two Fortuners, a Thar and a Honda sedan. He committed the crime only to ensure his dominance continues in the real estate venture at Cherla Patelguda,” Rachakonda CP said after the arrest.

The realtor is being interrogated by the Ibrahimpatnam police in the double murder case and once his custodial interrogation is over, Matta Reddy, will be produced before the court in the 2007 bank cheating case by Narayanguda police on a transit warrant.
