Four sustain injuries after roof of eatery collapses in Vikarabad
Hyderabad: Four people were injured after the roof of an eatery collapsed in Marpally town of Vikarabad district on Saturday morning. The injured were admitted to a local hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
The incident occurred at HKN Tiffin Centre around 11 am when only a handful of customers were present.
“The roof of the hotel suddenly caved in, injuring four customers who were trapped under the debris. Alerted by the locals, our team rushed to the spot. With the help of locals and an earthmover, we cleared the debris and rescued the victims,” Vikarabad DSP C Anjaiah said.
According to the DSP, the injured were identified as Nazeer (18), Chandana (12), Ramesh (31), and Shiva Kumar (28), all residents of Marpally. The eatery’s operator, Imran, had stepped out a few minutes before the incident to purchase flour, said police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the building was constructed by the SC Corporation and allotted to a Marpally resident, Ramulu. “Following Ramulu’s death, his son Chakrapani inherited the property and recently leased it to Imran, who has been running the tiffin centre there,” the DSP said.
The DSP added that the building was in a dilapidated condition and that recent rains may have weakened the structure, leading to the collapse.
A case has been registered at Marpallypolice police station under Section 125(a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS against the building owner and the eatery operator.
