HYDERABAD: Four persons, including three students who were on their way to the examination centre, died in a road accident in Lalgadmalakpet near Shamirpet on Saturday.
Shamirpet police said the victims-Y Mahesh, M Naveen, M Madhu-all aged between 17 and 18 years, and Punyavathi, 35, died on the spot after they were hit by a speeding school bus. Police said Mahesh, Naveen and
Madhu were going on a bike from Aliabad to Jaganguda. Similarly, Punyavathi and her husband Sriramulu, were also going on another bike in the same direction.
A bus of Saraswathi Vidhyanikethan School hit the two bikes coming in the opposite direction while attempting to overtake another bus at Lalgadmalakpet.
"The three youths and the woman died in the collision, while Sriramulu suffered serious injuries," Shamirpet inspector P Kasi Reddy told STOI.
Police said the three students were going to Lalgadmalakpet to write their SSC exam at a local government school. "All the three students were from Edraspalli village. Since the three had failed in their earlier attempts, they were writing the supplementary exam.," police said. Punyavathi was a resident of Jaganguda. Sriramulu who suffered serious injuries is undergoing treatment. A case was registered under Section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the bus driver, who has been reportedly taken into custody.
