Food poisoning: Hostel warden suspended, 3 cooks dismissed

Hyderabad: The warden of the tribal welfare girls hostel has been suspended in connection with a recent food poisoning incident that led to the hospitalisation of 16 girls. Three cooks have also been removed from their posts.On Dec 10, the girls suffered stomach aches, headaches, diarrhoea and vomiting after eating breakfast at the hostel at Saipur in Tandur. Fortunately, all the students have now recovered.Vikarabad collector Prateek Jain, along with local MLA B Manohar Reddy, visited the hostel on Thursday to speak to the students and assess the conditions of the hostel.The collector instructed the staff to ensure that quality food is provided to the students and stressed the importance of providing proper drinking water. He mentioned that a total of 12,000 H2S water test kits would be distributed to govt schools and hostels in Vikarabad district to check the water quality.The hostel students had previously complained that despite informing the hostel staff about the poorly cooked food, their concerns had been ignored. During a visit on Dec 11, the collector assured the parents that the authorities were taking all necessary steps to provide proper facilities and safe food to the students.
