Flight makes emergency landing at Hyderabad airport due to glitch in landing mechanism
NEW DELHI: A major accident was narrowly avoided at Hyderabad airport on Tuesday when a cargo aircraft en route from Chennai made an emergency landing.
The plane encountered a malfunction in its landing mechanism following which the pilot quickly alerted airport control about the issue and requested emergency landing clearance.
The aircraft was carrying six crew members at the time of the incident.
A series of emergency landing incidents occurred at various airports in the country in the past two weeks, showcasing the prompt response of airline crews and airport authorities to avert serious situations.

Another emergency occurred on February 6, when SpiceJet flight SG-3445, traveling from Guwahati to Patna, was forced to make an emergency landing at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal.
The aircraft, which had taken off from Guwahati, developed a suspected issue with its wings approximately 30 minutes into the flight. The plane landed safely at 11:52 am, but the incident led to the cancellation of the onward journey to Patna.
Passengers on board were left waiting for over three hours before they were informed that the Patna-Guwahati leg of the flight had been canceled. This delay caused confusion and frustration, as passengers gathered in the security hold area of Patna Airport, seeking clarification from airline staff.

In a more tragic turn of events, an Oman Air flight traveling from Muscat to Kuala Lumpur was forced to make an emergency landing at Chennai Airport on February 7 after a 42-year-old woman, identified as Khalija Abubacker from Malaysia, complained of severe chest pain. Khalija, part of a group of pilgrims returning from a religious visit to Medina, received immediate medical attention from the on-board medical team. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, she was declared dead shortly after the flight diverted for an emergency landing.
The flight, which was about two hours into its journey, made a safe landing at around 2 pm. Airport medical personnel rushed to the aircraft, but Khalija could not be revived. Following her death, her body was transported to Chromepet Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
After completing the necessary procedures, the flight was cleared to resume its journey and departed Chennai Airport at approximately 4:30 pm, continuing on its route to Kuala Lumpur.
These incidents highlight the critical importance of swift and coordinated responses from flight crews, medical teams, and air traffic control to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers during emergencies.
