Five elected to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council unopposed

HYDERABAD: The MLC polls through MLAs’ quota in the state are unanimous with only five candidates filing their nominations for the five vacancies. The nomination papers were scrutinized here on Friday and the election commission found all the nominations in order. And with this, the elections to five MLC vacancies from the MLAs’ quota have been declared unanimous.

The ruling Telugu Desam Party bagged four seats while the main opposition YSRCP got one.

The elected members are Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Ashok Babu, D Rama Rao and BT Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party and Janga Krishna Murthy of the YSRCP.

Of the elected members, Ramakrishnudu, who is also the

finance

minister, is the seniormost. Krishna Murthy is a former legislator. Ashok Babu, Rama Rao, and Naidu are entering the House for the first time. Ashok Babu was a former leader of the AP Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association (APNGOA).

Elections for MLC seats through teachers, graduates and local bodies’ constituencies are due for next month.
