HYDERABAD: A major fire broke out in the Prajasakthi printing press at RTC crossroads on Sunday. Property worth Rs 1 crore is reported to have been damaged in the incident. The mishap occurred at around 8.40 am at the printing press located in the ground floor of the two-storied Makineni Basava Punnayya Bhavan next to the Chikkadpally police station.
The fire control room received a call at 9 am and six fire tenders from Secunderabad, Moula Ali, Gowliguda, Moghalpura, Musheerabad and Malakpet were rushed to the spot. "The personnel fought for nearly three-and-half hours to control the fire," district fire officer GV Narayana Rao said.
According to the fire department officials, the property loss might be anywhere around Rs 1 crore as nearly 280 paper rolls were destroyed in the blazing fire. "With the help of the fire-fighting personnel, the employees of the printing press pulled out many bundles of paper and saved them. Otherwise the loss could have been much higher," Narayana Rao said. Some printing machinery was also damaged in the fire. According to the watchman of the printing press, Yadagiri, the fire occurred due to electric short circuit.
