Hyderabad: Film director arrested for raping techie

HYDERABAD: Sidharth Varma, 30, working as a director in the film industry was arrested by Gachibowli police of Cyberabad commissionerate in the city for allegedly raping a techie, 25, by promising her with roles in his movies. Police initiated action after the woman lodged a complaint with them. Varma was sent to judicial remand on Wednesday, said Gachibowli SHO Anjaneyulu.

Police said the accused hailed from Vizag and was residing in a rented flat at Kondapur. The woman hailing from Anantapur of AP was working in the city and residing in a rented flat at Narsingi. Through common friends, they met each other a few months ago.

Gradually they became friends and Varma asked her if she was willing to act in movies. As she expressed her willingness, he started training in acting. Later in June 2024, he invited her to his flat for dinner. After dinner he offered her juice, which she consumed and slipped into a semi conscious state.

Taking advantage of this, Varma raped her. Later during the month and also in July, the accused raped her on multiple occassions. But he recently started avoiding her. The woman was also sent for medical check up and police have begun gather other evidences in the case.
