Telangana: File stuck with govt stalls water flow to Alkapur

HYDERABAD: To find a solution to water crisis at Alkapur Township, water board officials on Friday held a meeting presided over by MD Dana Kishore. Sources said that Kishore took a serious view of the matter and tried to gauge the ground situation. While residents have been seeking clean drinking water for several years, they recently began intensifying the protests, taking to the streets.
Ravinder Reddy, the general manager, division 18, water board maintained that the file for Mission Bhagiratha funds that will be needed to start these works is pending before the government.“The file is being processed fast and only after government sanction can the work begin,” he said, adding that the locals had been apprised of the situation.
Late Thursday, P Ravi, director operations II, also took to Twitter to assure residents. He said: “We have noted your grievance. Water supply pipelines will soon be laid in Alkapur Township and water connections will be provided.”
However, locals feel that ‘a pending file’ is not a guarantee for getting water anytime soon, they say.
Vasanth Kalyan, an entrepreneur, said, “There is lack of trust because officials have not given us time frame. They must give one and stick to it.”
Shashidhar Reddy, a resident, said, “We have been living here for more than five years and applied for water connections. People in surrounding areas have tanks and water is being provided to them at government rates. In fact, bores were dug in our parks and water was supplied.”
