hyderabad: the chikkadpally police arrested seven members of an inter-state gang, for cheating the public on the pretext of providing ayurvedic medicine to cure serious ailments. east zone dcp c v anand told reporters here on monday that the main accused k durgappa sastry, a native of gokak in karnataka, had set up the sri sai krupa ayurvedic medicine clinic at chikkadpally and was selling fake herbal medicine.
the issue came to light after m shankar of vanasthalipuram approached sastry on dec. 27 to get medicine for his daughter afflicted with polio. sastry, along with his aides, told shankar that they have a medicine which can cure polio and asked him to get rs 18,500 for the treatment. shankar paid rs 5,000 in cash and a cheque for rs 11,000. but when shankar realised that sastry was cheating him, he lodged a complaint with the police. the dcp said the chikkadpally police, accordingly, laid a trap and arrested sastry, his assistant srinivas and five others working in the shop. the police raided the shop and recovered rs 30,000 cash and some herbal medicine from the premises. dcp anand said sastry and his assistants had collected over rs 2 lakh from public by giving them fake medicine. meanwhile, in three separate cases the east zone police arrested five persons and recovered stolen property worth rs 2 lakh. the narayanaguda police held mohammad mujahid patel of edibazar and recovered a us-made nokia cellular phone worth about rs 1 lakh in the market. in the second case, the chikkadpally police nabbed b naveen verma, a local youth, and recovered rs 65,000 worth stolen property. he had stolen gold chains from a house in chikkadpally limits. in the third case, the chikkadpally police nabbed three persons involved in the theft of tree guards in the area and remanded them to judicial custody.
