Ex-IIIT student among 2 held for selling ganja
Hyderabad: Two persons, including a youngster from Guntur district, were caught by enforcement officials of the Prohibition and Excise Department as they were in possession of 1.2 kg of ganja. The contraband was seized after conducting a raid at a hostel in SR Nagar. K Manikanta Chowdary and V Pavan Kumar, a former student of IIIT-Trichy, were arrested. Pavan bought the ganja from Visakhapatnam. He returned to the city to hand it over to Manikanta, who was supposed to sell it to the persons in need of ganja. "Though Pavan has completed the course tenure, he still has backlogs. His parents wanted him to complete his course, but he got into drug peddling," excise superintendent N Anji Reddy told TOI. Pavan, who hails from Macherla in AP, got into ganja abuse after he had a disturbed relationship with a woman, police said. Subsequently, he got into drug peddling with the aim of making money. After questioning the accused, excise officials came to know that there are 24 consumers who were in touch with him. The accused were booked for violation of the NDPS Act.
