HYDERABAD: After taking the baton from
Anurag Sharma, new director general of police M Mahendar Reddy announced on Sunday that
Telangana police aimed to install 10 lakh CCTV cameras in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda commissionerates as part of community project in the coming months. “As of now in Hyderabad there are 1.5 lakh CCTVs.
Now, the aim is to install 10 lakh CCTVs across the city as part of community policing.
Apps like Hawk Eye, HYDCOP will be implemented across the state,’’ he said. The outgoing DGP, Anurag Sharma, was given a grand farewell as per police protocol, which included a parade at RBVRR TS Police Academy. Sharma during his farewell speech recalled his experiences in Old City during early 1990s, when communal problems were at its peak, handling naxal problems, setting up of Counter Intelligence Cell for anti-terrorism with bare minimum staff and other experiences he had.
He said the state had overcome all those problems with efficient policing. He also said that it was important to know people’s needs and developing a connect through mediums like social media. “I am retiring after 35 years and I am a satisfied, content and happy man. I thank the family members of each policeman who supported us. The confidence reposed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the police was the key to our success. The chief minister said that law and order should be maintained at any cost and was prepared to give everything we asked for. Looking back, we did what the chief minister expected of us,’’ Anurag Sharma said.
