European univs eye Hyd for off-campus expansion
Hyderabad: European universities are looking to establish off-campus facilities in Hyderabad. In this regard, a delegation from the Indo-Euro Synchronization and IUN Group from Germany met with V Balakista Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE). The delegation briefed him about plans to establish an off-campus site for European universities, which will include the University of Applied Management, Ismaning, along with two to three other universities, in the city. They also invited the TSCHE chairman and vice-chancellors of some of the state universities to visit Germany early next year to assess the education and job opportunities in the country. The visit comes even as there shortage of skilled workforce in Germany. "They expressed their intention of setting up a cutting-edge campus which would enhance capacity building and lead to pathway progress," said Reddy, adding that he urged them to bring in innovation and not confine themselves to the conventional business school and technological campus model. The delegation from Germany shared their ideas of introducing undergraduate programmes with minor and honours components in the proposed university to accommodate 1,000 students, with an investment of 12 million euros. The students pursuing these programmes would be sent to Germany to complete the final year of their studies there. The consortium will be actively looking for joint partners or governmental facilitation to establish the university or university campus with an investment size of 10 to 50 million euros. This campus will focus on bachelor and master levels, along with a dual model in engineering (IT) and the healthcare sector, which will facilitate employment in Germany for Indian candidates. The meeting also sought to deliberate upon the need to integrate technology with the law, as there has been phenomenal growth in the aviation industry. This calls for unique, value-added courses, which most business schools are yet to incorporate, such as courses on air traffic management, airport management, and airspace management. The delegation included Christian Werner, CEO of IUN Group and the University of Applied Management, and Banga Raju, SRVP and board member of German Varsity and Indo Euro Synchronization, among others.
