Telangana: Engineering students goes missing from hostel

HYDERABAD: A 17-year-old B Tech first-year student from college hostel in Medchal went missing after she left with a man pretending to be a relative. The police registered a kidnapping case. The missing girl,

Banapuram

Kavya from

Jangaon district

left the hostel on Friday evening stating that she was going out with her uncle. Since then, her mobile has been switched off.

"The hostel received a call from a man who claimed to be her father and said that he along with her uncle will come to the hostel to pick Kavya up for an outing. She left with a person on Friday. The hostel staff has seen that person pretending to be her uncle pick her up from the hostel in three earlier instances," said Medchal SI, K Naik.

The hostel-in-charge tried to contact Kavya and later contacted her mother when they found that Kavya’s cell phone was switched off. The mother clarified that they do not have any relative staying in Hyderabad and that her father had neither visited the city nor called the hostel.

The hostel staff then contacted the number that the first call came from. "The person said that he was Kavya's uncle and that he would be sending Kavya to the hostel by bus from

Secunderabad

. However, after this even this number was switched off," said the officer.

Following this, a kidnapping case was registered in Medchal police station and the police formed two teams to trace the girl. "We are tracking the numbers of both Kavya and the offender. We will trace the girl soon," added the officer.
