Engg student dies by suicide at college hostel in Suryapet
Hyderabad: A third year engineering student died by suicide after jumping from the terrace of her college hostel in Ramapuram in Suryapet district on Saturday morning. The deceased, 19-year-old Krishnaveni from Mancherial, was a B Tech (computer science) student at Gandhi Academy of Technical Education.Chilkur sub-inspector S Rambabu said Krishnaveni had gone home for Ugadi on March 29 and returned to the hostel with her mother, Lakshmi, on Friday night around 9 pm. Both stayed in Krishnaveni's hostel room."At around 5.30 am on Saturday, Krishnaveni told her mother that she was going to the washroom. Instead, she went to the terrace on the fourth floor and jumped," the SI said.Hostel security and students, alerted by the sound, rushed to the spot and shifted her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.No suicide note was found. In her statement, Krishnaveni's mother said her daughter had no known issues or disputes. "The reason behind the suicide is still unclear. We have registered a suspicious death case under section 194 of the BNS," said Rambabu.Krishnaveni is survived by her parents and two siblings. Her body was sent for postmortem.
