Efforts of citizen reporters and civic action making Hyderabad better

HYDERABAD: TOI’s

Citizen Reporter

app is having a massive impact on civic grievances which had otherwise gone unattended. Civic officials have been taking up rectification works on war-footing soon after the publication of such grievances.

Fixing the sewage menace on Road Number 40 in Jubilee Hills to emptying the unattended garbage bins in Gudimalkapur and road restoration work in LB Nagar’s Alkapuri are among the many works taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board(HMWSSB) following reports by concerned citizens.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWS&SB) MD M Dana Kishore assured that the grievance in Road Number 40 Jubilee Hills will be attended and solved. “We have pressed into service a sewer-jetting machine to solve the overflowing sewage menace. We are also coming up with a permanent solution,” said a water board official

Similar was the case in Gudimalkapur, where sanitation staff was sent to clean up by GHMC’s Khairtabad zonal commissioner Musharraf Ali Faruqui after residents aired grievances on unattended garbage bins. “Some customers used to avoid my shop due to the rancid smell (coming from the garbange bins). I thank the newspaper and government for cleaning the bin and surrounding area ,” said Adnan Ahmed, a fruit vendor in the area.

In the eastern part of the city, GHMC LB Nagar zonal commissioner ensured that debris was removed and ordered the laying of a CC road in RK Puram and Alkapuri following grievances on bad condition of roads aired through TOI’s Citizen Reporter app.
