HYDERABAD: Planning to go on a drinking binge on New Year’s eve? Beware, cops across all districts in the state will be on the roads to put the brakes on anyone found drunk and driving on December 31st night.
Drunks behind wheels would be booked, arrested and prosecuted, police have warned. While advising people to choose between driving or drinking, Jayashankar Boopalpalli SP J Surendar Reddy warned: “Youth should remember that that it will affect their chances of getting a government job if there are drunken driving cases against them.”
Wine shops, bars and restaurants have been told to strictly adhere to timings.

Cops said no gatherings will be allowed at public places.
In Nizamabad, police commissioner K R Nagaraju said anyone creating ruckus on roads would be prosecuted. Special police teams will patrol from 6 pm and take action against those violating traffic rules, he said.

“Aged and sick need peace and noise will not be permitted,” he said, adding that orchestra, sound systems or DJs were not allowed. Public in Nalgonda have also been cautioned against disturbing peace on New Year’s eve. SP Rema Rajeshwari said in case of drunken driving or violation of traffic rules, cops would seize the vehicles and cancel licences.
“We are forewarning the youth against indulging in any acts that attract penal provisions of the law. When there are cases registered against them, they will not be able to travel abroad for jobs. They must keep this in mind,” the superintendent of police said.
Karimnagar police commissioner V Satyanarayana said police in the district will check vehicle till January 1 morning.
He warned parents that they would be prosecuted if minors were found riding bikes or driving cars.
