hyderabad: andhra pradesh congress committee president m satyanarayana rao justified his emotional outbursts at the apcc general body meeting on saturday saying he had prior information that attempts would be made to disrupt the proceedings. speaking to reporters on sunday on the disruptions at the apcc meet,rao said i felt that offence is the best form of defence, and my presumption on the possible disruption proved to be true''.
rao said he reacted strongly as he was hurt by certain leaders exploiting the legacy of the late kotla vijayabhaskar reddy for their personal benefit. rao said there was a deliberate campaign against him by former chief minister nadendla bhaskar rao, former union minister p upendra, former minister satyanarayana raju and others. referring to these leaders, rao said they did not have any constituency and did not participate in any party programmes but were involved in dissident activity. he said that party leaders had a right to express dissent to the party high command, but they should not air their views in the media. rao denied that a group of dissident leaders had met all india congress committee secretary daljit singh to complain against him, as reported in the times of india, which led to the present controversy. when it was pointed out that daljit singh had not denied the dissident leaders meeting him, rao said singh told him that he did not talk to anyone. however, when contacted in new delhi over phone, daljit singh told the times of india: i don't want to be quoted and misquoted by anybody, congress leaders should not react but verify with each other before making statements''. rao said he was also disturbed by the statements made by former congress legislature party leader p janardhan reddy at the general body meeting that led to the disruption of the meeting.rao said reddy had misunderstood his statements on the sad state of party affairs. he clarified that he would not take action against those involved in the incidents on saturday. rao reiterated his earlier statement that he had no personal ambition or agenda and would resign if aicc president sonia gandhi desired. he also complimented sonia gandhi on her 53rd birthday. he said sonia gandhi was responsible for reviving the party that was on the verge of disintegration. he added that the minorities were returning to the partyfold after she took over as the party president.
