hyderabad: uncle-nephew and father-son pairs that have made it into the state committee and presidium of the telangana rashtra samithi (trs), have sparked off resentment and anger among its leaders and cadre. the founder members of trs who did the leg work for the launch of the party have been ignored in the constitution of the committee. the trs leaders who are grumbling over the attitude of their leader, are looking towards the telangana sadhana samithi (tss) for an alternative, said sources. after a long delay k chandrasekhar rao had constituted a 23-member party presidium and 50-member state committee. the presidium, supposed to be the supreme policy-making body, is headed by rao himself. but a party leader says that it has no clearly defined role and powers. it is an "ornamental, powerless body and a dustbin of the trs," he said. party leaders complain that the state committee and presidium were heavily loaded in favour of upper castes. the presidium is packed with at least ten members from the higher castes and the vice president is m narayan reddy. there is no representation for minorities and women. v jagapathi rao, brother-in-law of roads and buildings minister k vijayarama rao, has found a place in the presidium and his son v rajender rao was made joint secretary of the party. t harish rao, nephew of chandrasekhar rao was appointed as publicity secretary of trs reportedly at the last minute, causing resentment among the other party leaders. the name of harish was included minutes before the list was sent for typing. out of six general secretaries, three came from the upper caste. it is the same with regard to the vice presidents and incidentally two of the vice presidents were picked up from karimnagar.there is no representation for khammam district in the committee. rao had earlier announced that 51 percent of the party posts would be given to scheduled castes, tribes, minorities and women but there are hardly half-a-dozen minorities in the entire committee. founders of the party like v prakash, mahender reddy, b hanumantha rao were not given their due share in the committee. even desina chinna mallaiah, who joined trs from cpm, was just made vice president while he had been expecting the post of coordinator. capt v laxmikantha rao, a close relative of former prime minister p v narasimha rao was appointed as vice president to fill the gap after singapuram rajeshwara rao, his brother left trs and joined the tss, even though he had made no great contribution to the party. many dissatisfied leaders are reportedly looking towards tss. however k chandrasekhar rao was not available for comment.
