Deputy mayor fight
gets tough for TDP

hyderabad: with more than half of thetdp mps found ineligible to vote in the deputy mayor’s election on feb.26, the tdp-bjp alliance is facing a tough task to win the post. these mps areeither not listed as voters in the mch limits or have already voted in othermunicipal polls. the mps likely to be so barred are: dr y lakshmi prasad, k msafiullah, y venkat rao, c ramachandraiah, r ramchandraiah, k venkata rao, srama muni reddy, vanga geeta (all rajya sabha), m rajaiah and g sukender reddy(both lok sabha). mch commissioner p k mohanty on tuesday asked the rajya sabhamps, four lok sabha mps and 13 mlas to state in an affidavit whether they arelisted as voters in the mch limits and if they had already voted in any of thelocal bodies. this action by mohanty followed a representation by former mim mlavirasath rasool khan. rajya sabha mps d venkateshwar rao, (no more with thebjp), dasari nagabhushan rao (cpi) and y radhakrishna murthy (cpm) are unlikelyto attend the deputy mayor’s election. n jayaprada, s ramachandra reddy, pprabhakar reddy, dr alladi raj kumar, k rama mohana rao are the only tdp rajyasabha mps who may get the voting right; so also union minister bandarudattatreya. tdp mlas k vijayarama rao and g sayanna reportedly have voted in thelocal bodies elections in kukatpally and alwal municipalities respectively.likewise, bjp floor leader n indrasena reddy voted in the lb nagar municipality.this has reduced the tdp-bjp combine votes in the mla category to just five.meanwhile, the mim-congress combine on tuesday fielded the mim corporator frommoghalpura ward, md abdul rahman khan alias haroon khan for the deputymayor’s post on tuesday. haroon khan filed his nomination papers ontuesday. it was learnt that the congress has decided to field madhusudan goudfor the standing committee chairman''s post.
