Denied promotion despite fulfilling criteria: Osmania univ teachers
Hyderabad: Osmania University teachers association members alleged that the varsity denied promotion to 46 teachers (25%) despite their fulfilling all eligibility criteria as laid down by UGC regulations. The faculty members claimed that they were rejected solely based on their interviews, even though interviews carry only 20% weightage as per UGC regulations and cannot be the sole basis for promotion denial.
"In recent interviews, several teachers with outstanding research output, proven teaching abilities and excellent domain knowledge were denied promotion arbitrarily. This stands in stark contrast to earlier times, where at least reasons for rejection were communicated in writing, enabling the faculty to improve in the indicated areas," said B Manohar from OUTA.Association members questioned the need for allotting marks for publications, domain knowledge and teaching ability when the decision was made solely on the interview. The association called the extent of rejections "alarming" as only 8 of the 16 faculty interviewed for senior professor got promotion orders. Of the 50 faculty members called for interviews for the post of professor, just 33 were promoted. Of the 75 faculty interviewed for associate professor, only 54 got promoted. Overall, 46 faculty members were rejected despite presenting their credentials.
