HYDERABAD: To prevent and investigate the increasing cyber crimes, the special Cyber Crime police station was inaugurated on the Central Crime Station (CCS) premises at Basheerbagh here on Tuesday.
The police station, headed by assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Mohammed Iqbal Siddiqui, will have jurisdiction over the entire city. Apart from cracking cyber crimes, it would also train city police officials in handling investigation.
Apart from two investigation teams headed by an officer of inspector rank, the police station will have a full-fledged Cyber Crime lab headed by an SI.
All the team members have computer knowledge and they have been trained by cyber forensic experts.
After inaugurating the cyber crime police station, Hyderabad police commissioner A K Khan said cyber crime in the city has been doubling every year and with the launch of the special police station, the new-age crime could be prevented to some extent.
In 2008, the number of cyber crime cases registered were 18, while it jumped to 50 by 2009 and, till July this year, 35 cases have been reported at the Cyber Cell of CCS.
