Cops urge HC to lift stay on probe against Harish in phone tapping case

Hyderabad: The Panjagutta police investigating the allegations of phone tapping and harassment made by G Chakradhar Goud against former BRS minister T Harish Rao and others on Thursday approached the high court with an urgent plea (lunch motion) to lift its stay on probe. The cops also urged the HC to direct the trial court to decide their plea for custody of T Vamsi Krishna and two other accused arrested recently in the case. The plea filed by ACP S Mohan Kumar contended that the stay imposed by the HC on the police probe till March 3 had resulted in a stalemate at the trial court which was unable to pronounce any orders on their custody plea. When public prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao requested the court to hear the case as a lunch motion, Justice K Lakshman assured him that he would hear the case on Friday.But by Thursday evening, Vamsi Krishna secured bail from the trial court.The court allowed bail after perusing an affidavit filed by Vamsi Krishna's lawyer Jakkula Laxman alleging that the police were harassing him to depose against Harish Rao. Laxman presented the affidavit after taking the court's permission to visit Vamsi Krishna in jail to collect his handwriiten statement. Two others — Todupunoori Santosh Kumar and Bandi Parsharamulu — arrested along with Vamsi Krishna were also given bail.
