On September 29, the baby was abducted by Hamsamma and Chandrakanth, a cab driver, by diverting the attention of the baby's aunt Vijaya near a shop, police said.
After the baby's parents lodged a complaint, Cyberabad police started investigation. Investigations revealed that Shaini's mother Elizebeth Rani, who is Vijaya's sister, recently adopted the girl from her biological parents Mohan and Jyothi of Maheshwaram, who gave away their daughter due to their poverty .
Hamsamma, a resident of Kapugudda in Shamshabad, knew Rani since she too stays in the same colony .
Police said Hamsamma and Chandrakanth hatched a conspiracy and were waiting for an opportunity to abduct the girl. On September 29, on the pretext of consulting a nurse for the baby , Hamsamma took the infant along with Vijaya to a nearby shop. By diverting Vijaya's attention, she along with Chandrakanth, who was waiting on a bike nearby , kidnapped the baby.
Police traced the couple at Vinayak Colony and arrested them. Hamsamma has two children from her first marriage. Later, she married Chandrakanth. "The couple planned to either put the girl for sale or adopt her by themselves,'' police said.
