Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy urged the opposition not to push farmers into a crisis by encouraging them to take up paddy cultivation just for the sake of deriving political advantage. He urged leaders of all political parties, farmers and their welfare organisations to exert pressure on the Centre to come up with a policy to encourage crop colonies.
“Please convince farmers to go for cultivation of diversified crops. Prolonged cultivation of a single crop can lead to an increase in soil salinity,” he said. TNN
