HYDERABAD: In the wake of growing differences between the PCC and the Jagan camp, AICC general secretary in-charge of state affairs Veerappa Moily has decided to convene a meeting of the
Congress coordination committee on October 15 to bring a rapprochement with Jagan.
Interestingly, Kadapa MP
Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is also a member of the committee. It is not clear whether Jagan will attend the meeting.
Jagan has been openly expressing his displeasure with the state Congress for going after his loyalists for their 'anti-party' activities.
Party president
Sonia Gandhi had set up the committee in February with Moily as chairman. PCC president D Srinivas is convener of the committee, while chief minister K Rosaiah, tourism minister J Geetha Reddy, former home minister K Jana Reddy, MPs K V P Ramachandra Rao and K S Rao and former MLA Md Ali Shabbir are members.
The committee had met only once a couple of months ago. The meeting is expected to witness some fireworks from Jagan who is angry with a section of the party for targeting him and his late father.
On the other hand, the PCC chief on Tuesday decided to crack the whip against Jagan loyalists by removing K Sridhar Reddy of Nellore as party secretary, and suspended him from the primary membership of the party for his alleged anti-party activities. He has been given a week's time to explain why further disciplinary proceedings should not be initiated against him.
Similarly, a show-cause notice was slapped on P Pratap Reddy, president of the Tirupati city Congress committee for his 'anti-party' activities.
The show-cause notice found fault with Sridhar Reddy for questioning the wisdom of the PCC chief in issuing a show-cause notice last week to Nellore DCC president Gopal Reddy. Party sources said Gopal Reddy called upon all the party leaders to participate in the forthcoming Odarpu yatra of Jagan in the district. Since the yatra is being taken out against the advice of the Congress high command, party MLAs have been keeping aloof from in it. Sridhar Reddy openly expressed disapproval of the PCC president's action.
Similarly, Pratap Reddy is said to have abused the city Congress office by getting a resolution adopted in support of Jagan's programmes.
Some more suspensions are likely in the next few days, party sources added. A show-cause notice is likely to be issued soon to MLA Konda Surekha, a die hard supporter of Jagan. "The issue is under consideration. But no decision is taken yet," said the sources.
