Hyderabad: The Congress suffered a jolt in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (
GHMC) standing committee election on Thursday with some of its corporators voting against party candidates. However , the official candidates of both the Congress and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won the elections.
For the 15-member standing committee election held on Thursday, the Congress fielded eight candidates officially, while
MIM fielded seven as part of the agreement between the two parties on sharing of seats.
Nearly 10 Congress rebel candidates filed their nominations , though eight of them withdrew later.
The TDP also fielded two of its corporators. TDP candidates G Rajamouli secured 58 votes and ES Raj Jitender Nath secured 50 votes.
With regard to Congress rebel candidates, Adikmet corporator C Sunitha secured 39 votes and corporator from Rajendranagar J Satyanarayana secured only six votes.
Out of the 150 corporators, only 140 members utilised their franchise during the polls. Congress corporators M Narasimha Yadav (123 votes), Ale Jithendra (118), P Gnaneshwar Goud (117), Nemali Suresh (117), Mamidi Laxmi Bai (108), G M Ratna Kumari (106), B Chandramma (94) and Md Ayub Khan (93) and MIM corporators Shaik Shakeel Mahmood (100), Najma Sultana (91), Mohd Mumtaz Ali (91), Aziz Bai (90), Md Gouse Pasha (90), Sunnam Srilatha (90) and Mohd Murtuza Ali (89) have been elected as standing committee members.
