Cong nominee Teenmaar Mallanna wins Grad MLC bypoll
HYDERABAD: Congress candidate Teenmar Mallanna has emerged victorious in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate MLC by-election having secured over 50% votes. The official result is set to be declared by returning officer Dasari Harichandana.
BRS candidate Rakesh Reddy accepted the outcome, but emphasised that while he may have lost technically, his was a moral victory. The counting process for the MLC by-election began at 8am on June 5 and concluded at 10:30pm on Friday. In a closely contested race, Mallanna and the opposition BRS candidate Rakesh Reddy have been neck and neck.
The counting process, in the second preference votes, witnessed the elimination of 48 candidates. The competition between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates has been intense, with votes being closely split. BJP candidate Gujjula Premender Reddy was also eliminated.
In the elections held in 2021 for this constituency, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of the BRS had won. Mallanna, who contested as an independent candidate then, came second.
The election was necessitated after Palla resigned from his post and won the assembly poll from Jangaon.
