"nuclear technology must be opposed, not only because of the nuclear waste, accidental risk and danger of nuclear war, but also because of the costs and the impact of such technologies on jingoistic egos of policy makers and national leadership," he said. "during the last 55-years, the so-called nuclear super powers have converted the world into a dumping ground of weapons of mass destruction in total disregard to the loss of scarce resources which could have been used for social development and human welfare," ranga reddy, said. condemning all physicists and nuclear scientists doing research on increasing nuclear weapon capabilities, he said, "they are anti-human and are indulging in anti-human activities. the idea of having a nuclear missile defence shield and a nuclear umbrella is a farce." convener of the programme, k b tilak, said huge investments were being made in nuclear technology. "but the technology has not been able to benefit the people in our country in any way in the past 50 years," he said. to legitimise the investment made in the production of nuclear technologies, nuclear scientists have worked out peaceful uses of nuclear technologies, he said. the society urged the governments of india and pakistan to desist from nuclear arms race and divert the resources for the development of the nations.
