HYDERABAD: Telugu film comedian M S Narayana passed away at a corporate hospital here on Friday following multi-organ failure. Narayana who acted in over 500 films became popular for his portrayal of an inveterate drunkard. His roles parodying styles of leading heroes also won him accolades. The death of the 64-year-old actor plunged the Telugu film industry into grief.
Born as Mylavarapu Surayanarayana at Nidumarru in West Godavari, MS, as he came to be known, was a Telugu lecturer before he tested his luck in films.
Starting as a writer, he went on to get a firm foothold as one of the leading comedians. His growing popularity caused jitters among some senior actors. But Narayana deftly steered clear of his rivals.
MS won five Nandi awards and a Filmfare award during his long and illustrious film career. One of his memorable roles was in Mahesh Babu-starrer ‘Dookudu’ which won him the Filmfare award.
According to his family, the actor fell ill at Bheemavaram. Initially he was taken to Vijayawada from where he was moved to Hyderabad. He underwent a heart surgery, but following other complications he breathed his last. Incidentally, ‘Patas’ in which he played a role was released on the day of his death.
