CM to PM: We need AI war room, AI ministries
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a comprehensive national institutional framework for artificial intelligence. This proposal includes a national AI war room, a statutory AI council on the lines of GST Council and NITI Aayog, and dedicated AI ministries at both the Centre and state levels.
Delivering the keynote address at the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, the CM said the unprecedented speed of AI development demands a coordinated, real-time response mechanism involving both Union and state govts.
"India must create a war room to enable the Centre and states to monitor and respond to the latest AI developments. Hyderabad could host such a facility with support from the Centre," he said.
Revanth stressed India needs an apex policy body to ensure uniform regulation, strategic direction, and cooperative federal decision-making. He argued a national AI council would help align policies across states, address regulatory gaps, and provide oversight as AI becomes embedded across governance, industry, and society.
He also strongly advocated for a dedicated AI ministry, arguing that existing administrative structures may not be sufficient to handle the ethical, legal, economic, and security challenges of emerging technologies. "We need a dedicated AI ministry both at the Centre and state level to help in enacting laws and preventing misuse of AI. We also need the creation of a world-class AI university with campuses across India focused on original research," he added.
Highlighting the implications of automation, the CM called for an immediate national assessment of AI-driven job displacement and a massive reskilling programme to prepare the workforce. He emphasised technological transformation must be accompanied by job creation strategies to avoid widening inequality.
Revanth proposed a national AI fund to support start-ups, promote indigenous innovation, and encourage youth-led entrepreneurship. Offering Telangana as a national hub, he suggested Hyderabad host an AI start-up village serving the entire country.
Warning that India cannot afford to miss the AI revolution as it did previous industrial transformations, he said the country must transition from a consumer of global platforms to a creator and owner of core AI technologies. He outlined a vision for leadership across the full value chain, including GPU chip manufacturing, green energy for data infrastructure, and foundational platforms.
To sustain global engagement, the CM suggested India host international AI summits every six months in different cities. He concluded by inviting global institutions and industry leaders to partner with Telangana in advancing AI innovation and inclusive growth.
