HYDERABAD: Stating that maintaining law and order during BJP
leader NarendraModi's
visit to the city next month is chief minister Kiran
Kumar Reddy's duty, MajlisBachaoTehreek
(MBT
) spokesperson Majeedullah
Khan Farhat
on Friday said the CM was bound to protect the interest of all communities from Hindutva
forces. Addressing a gathering at the annual Youmul Quran meeting in Mecca Masjid, Farhat said: "The CM has to safeguard communities including minorities against fascist forces.
He will be responsible if there is a law and order problem. Modi must not become the Prime Minister. We need saner elements who believe in secularism for the post as this is a diverse nation."
Calling for a reform in the community Farhat claimed that Muslim leaders had failed the community on many counts as they were 'not acting maturely'. He said that calling for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was against the Constitution which guaranteed the freedom of practicing religion. "UCC proponents will indulge in rabble rousing which is unnecessary. We have a right to Muslim personal law," he said. Khayam Khan, who was elected president of MBT recently, said that the Quran was a book of peace. "The Quran says that Muslims must be faithful to the country they live in. Just like everybody else, we too want to see the country develop," Khan said.
