Civic tax collections hit Rs 100cr in one day

Hyderabad: A sharp enforcement drive, coupled with the ongoing one-time settlement (OTS) scheme, has triggered a steep rise in property tax collections across three municipal corporations in the Telangana core urban region, with revenues crossing Rs 100 crore in a single day.Until last week, daily collections ranged between Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore. The past few days, however, saw a dramatic spike, with collections touching Rs 20 crore on Sunday, Rs 50 crore on Monday and over Rs 100 crore on Tuesday, taking the cumulative collections to around Rs 2,500 crore.Officials attributed the surge to a multi-pronged crackdown, including sealing of high-value commercial properties, issuing notices, and intensified field-level efforts."There has been a big jump in property tax collections within a week. Measures like sealing commercial buildings, door-to-door campaigns and targeted SMS alerts have significantly improved compliance," a senior revenue official from GHMC said.The momentum is expected to continue, with civic bodies projecting collections of nearly Rs 120 crore in a day in the coming week.Meanwhile, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan urged citizens to leverage the early bird scheme by paying property tax in advance for the 2026–27 financial year. "A 5% rebate will be offered to taxpayers who clear their full property tax in April," he said.He clarified that the rebate applies only to advance payments for 2026–27 and not to pending dues from previous years, urging property owners to pay early and avail the benefit.
